Zodiac Camp

On Friday 27th January,

Some of the unit headed up to Fordell to start their Zodiac award.

The purpose of the award is for Explorers to spend 1 night per month camping.
While they are there they have to do a challenge.

Once our tents and fire were set up we went and continued with our skills training for the DOE and Chief scout awards.

After Supper we settled down for the night hoping that the temperature would not drop to much.
We discovered that it went to -3 during the night.

We all woke up chilly but glad that we had spent the night outdoors.

After Flag break it was time to head home to some Warmth.

Burns Night

On Tuesday 24th January it was our time to celebrate our famous Bard.
Yes it was Burns night.

Once we got the hall sorted it was time to get down to business.

We did all the formalities that are involved in a Burns supper
addressing the haggis to the toast of the lassies.

Oh and we had some haggis as well

We started back on January 17th with a challenge night.
It was called Minute to win it.

There were 10 mini challenges in which the explorers had one minute to complete each challenge.

These challenges ranged from.

How many cookies can you guide down your face into your mouth to how many tissues can you pull out of its box one at a time and of course with only one hand!!

Scouts Speak Up!!!

Scout Speak up – is a course that trains you to ‘Tell the world about Scouting’

· this course is designed to give you the skills and confidence to talk about your experiences to a wide variety of audiences and teach you how to carry out campaigns.

· it’s aimed at youth members aged 15-19,

What does the course cover?

• Talking to journalists
• Giving radio interviews
• Delivering presentations
• Supporting a campaign
• Online campaigns/direct lobbying

Skills for Life

· These skills will be useful for the rest of your life and will look great on a CV - you’ll get real media and promotional experience on your CV!

· And of course, you’ll enjoy a fun-filled weekend with other Scouts your age.

Be Part of Future Campaigns

· You’ll be put in contact with your Region’s ARC Communications (that’s me) who will proactively work with you to make the most of your newfound skills.

· You will also be contacted by Scottish Headquarters from time to time when they need young people to speak to the media for them.

· You’ll be invited to join a group who will work on ideas for promoting scouting – you’ll get involved in the brainstorming of ideas and the execution of these ideas as future campaigns.

Camp details and cost

· The course, including overnight accommodation and food, is free

· You will need to pay your own travelling expenses to and from Fordell Firs – however there may be money available from region if there are problems with this costs.

· Some participants will camp; others will stay in indoor accommodation.

· Full pre-course information will be distributed prior to the events.

YL Training

Over the weekend 11th -13th November
We had a member from the unit attended the young leaders weekend.

This was held at the Jock Neish centre just outside Dundee.

The main point of the weekend is to teach Explorers skills to work with the younger sections.

They had sessions on the following sections
Game on(learn how to run games for the sections)
Awards and badges
Kids behaving badly
Making Scouting acessable
and Thats what they say!!

The Explorer has completed one weekend and will complete his training in Febuary at the second weekend.

Over the weekend 8th – 9^th Oct some of the Explorers met up with others from the district to spend a weekend walking part of the West Highland Way.

On the Saturday night they spent the night in wig wams just outside Tynerum.

Gorge Walk

On Saturday 10th September, we joined Team Gorge-ous at Falls of Bruar for a spot of Gorge Walking.

After getting kitted out in wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets, we undertook a short period of instruction and demonstration on how to jump and how to land correctly before being introduced to the water for the first time...

Just a small 20-foot jump into a waterfall induced pool of broiling water! And if that wasn`t enough, the instruction was to swim hard and fast or find yourself in a small cavern... itself created by the water!

Everybody completed the first challenge with great applause from the instructors who felt our postive demonstration whould be rewarded (if that is truly the right word!) with another challenge slightly further up the water... a 40-foot jump!

All that the instructors asked was that we took a look but there was no pressure to jump. There was a lot of reluctance amongst the group but the first of us looked and jumped and this was then followed by all but one who headed back to the start.

Our means of getting out of the pool was to follow the river taking a naturally formed chute alongside and then under a waterfall.

As if that wasn`t enough, the team then asked us if we wanted to repeat the first jump and everybody duly obliged!

Shark Diving Experience

On Thursday 28th July, our Explorer Scouts had an amazing opportunity to get up close and personal with the sharks at Deep Sea World after Scotland`s national aquarium offered us a wonderful opportunity to try out their Bubblemaker Experience.

Qualified PADI diving instructors taught our Explorer Scouts all about Scuba techniques and then they got to dive in the aquarium`s main 4.5 million litre tank with real Sand Tiger sharks including `Scout`, the Sand Tiger shark named through a nationwide competition arranged between Deep Sea World and The Scout Association.

The Bubblemaker session lasted around 90 minutes which included the time it takes the dive pool team to take the Explorer Scouts through the skills they need to get started in diving.

Once kitted up in the dive gear, the Explorer Scouts entered the pool to learn important breathing techniques and once they completed the skills training, they headed into the main tank to swim with the sharks, rays and other animals right where they live.

...and after a successful completion they were awarded the Deep Sea World Bubblemaker Diver Certificate equivilent to PADI`s Discover Scuba Award.

As an added bonus, we also held a ceremony to complete the investiture of Christopher Rowe as the District`s new Explorer Scout Leader (Young Leader). This proved to be quite a challenge as Deep Sea World had given us permission to complete this at the bottom of the main tank amongst the sharks!

Final Day

Our Final day was taken up by doing our final bases.
This gave the Explorers the chance to do some water walking.

We finished off our jamboree with having a special dinner.
It was in the theme of a Christmas dinner, we had Crackers and paper chains and we also exchanged presents.

Then the explorers went and danced the night away to the abba night before we thought about our journey home.

Days 5 and 6

The next two days we were to spend off site.
On the Wednesday we had a day at the water activities.
We had the chance to do some Bell Boating, sailing, pitch and putt and fishing.

This was followed by a great blues brothers band.

On the Thursday we had our trip away.
It was to Wooburn Safari Park.

Now that the jamboree was in full swing it was the explorers spending time going round the many zones that were on offer.

The zones that were on offer over the two days had the following items for the Explorers to do.

Go Karts
Stilt Walking
High rope
Gun Run to name but a few

In the evening their were two live acts on show on the main stage.

Days 1 and 2

After a nine hour drive down the motorway, We finally arrived at the Jamboree.
We are on the Thailand Sub camp which is between Chile and Sweden.
We soon had everything set up and soon the explorers were out seeing what the site could offer.

On the Sunday it was the offical opening show with everyone marching in to the main arena.
After this the explorers had three bases to work round.

They were it's a knock out , Mascot derby and record breakers.

After dinner it was off to the disco and to see an up and coming singer live.

We finally got to bed at 11 to 1 pm.
Looking forward to another day.!!!!!!!!!

Pioneering

After the majority of Exams now over the unit was starting to get back to normality.

We went up to Fordell on Tuesday 31st May to put our pioneering skills to the test.

We had 3 Scouts that have started their visits with the unit come along to and meet the rest of the Explorers.

Hopefully over the next few weeks we can get back on track and start doing things that explorers do!!!!!

Edinburgh Marathon

On Sunday 22nd May members of the unit met up with other Explorers from the region to help out at the Edinburgh Marathon.
They were there to help out with baggage area.

With over 13,000 racers it was a lot of bags to sort out and we never lost a bag.

Exam Time

With May being a busy time for the Explorer scouts.

The majority of explorers have exams at school.
This does not mean that we stop doing scouting.

Over the past few weeks the explorers have down the following.

Tuesday 26th April we have a small team building night at the hall.
We had a team building bag in which the explorers had to build something.
In the end they built a chair to transport each other about.
They also had a project to build a free standing tower out of newspaper.

On Monday 2nd May one of our young leaders went to Fordell with the cub leaders from the pack she helps out with to do a team bonding session.
They were there to try out the King swing activity.

On Tuesday 3rd May we had 3 explorers who came to help the explorer leaders to demolish the pole store outside the hall.
This is to make room for our gas bottle store that is going to be built.

District Camp

Over the weekend 22nd - 24th April.
members from the unit camped along other explorers from Rosyth district as part of the St George's Day Camp.

After Camp was set up it was a relaxing night with just sitting round the fire.

When we woke up on Saturday it was not the greatest day with the weather but we continued with the programme which consisted of doing a session on Pioneering and cooking on an open fire.

In the afternoon it was our renewal of promise service followed by a camp fire indoors.

Just when the camp fire finished the sun came out.

After dinner we had sessions on Climbing and Archery.

On Sunday the unit went and took part in their sponsored event.

Over all it was a great camp and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Kilomathon 2011

On Sunday 17th April,
It was an early start for some of the explorers.
We met at the park and ride in Inverkeithing to help out at the latest Kilomathon race which was held in Edinburgh and went across the forth road bride.
Our job was to hand out energy drinks and water.

Sub Camp

We have now been allocated our Sub Camp for the Jamboree.
We are on Thailand Sub Camp.
The two other sub camps are Chile and Sweden.
The Theme for the jamboree is “One World”.
During the week there will be sub camp activities which will enable the Explorers/Ranger Guides to work towards international badges and awards.

Pentland Hike

On Saturday 26th Feb,
We headed across to Edinburgh to go a hike through the pentlands.

Once we got ourselves ready we headed off from Bonaly up the hills into the unknown.

The unit was out and about for 2 1/2 hours before they headed back to the site for a well earned break.

After Dinner the Scouts from Donibristle troop decided to go up and check out Edinburgh at night and the Explorers decided that they wanted to join them,

Once everyone had finally came back we all settled down to a DVD and settled down for the night.

In the morning once breakfast was disposed off it was into the bus and back home!!!

Go Karting

On Wednesday 23rd Feb,
The unit met up with other Explorers and headed across to Xtreme Karting in Edinburgh

We started by having a safety briefing then it was down to the racing.
We had 2 sessions each on the rack first one was for 7mins and the second one was for 10 mins,

1st - Jamie Ranaldi
After the racing we had a presentation of the top three times.

But a everyone left a winner.

Queen Scout Award

On Tuesday 22nd Feb 7 Explorers met at the scout hall to start working on their Queen Scout Award.
This is the highest award an Explorer Scout can earn

They all worked out what they were going to do for each of the sections

Physical, Service and Skill
They also started to talk about ideas for their Expedition.

Hopefully we will see some Queen Scouts next Year.

Bag Packing

On Saturday 12th Feb,
The Jamboree unit went to Asda in Halbeath to do a fundraiser .
We had bag packing from 11am - 4pm.

During that time we managed to raise £586.42.
This means that all the Explorers and Rangers that came along to help earned £8.50 per Hour they were there.

On Tuesday 8th Feb,
After 2 previous attempts,
(One cancelled due to snow and one due to having no electric in the hall)

We finally were able to hand out our awards.

We had 3 Explorers who had joined us from the 68th Inverkeithing getting invested first.

This was followed by Scott Barclay getting presented with his Chief Scout Platinum award.

Stuart Donaldson,Daniel MacDonald,Harry Davies and Jordan Mackenzie were all presented with their Chief scout Diamond award(Liam Ward could not make it so will be presented at a later date)

To finish off the night Jordan Mackenzie and Harry Davies were both presented with their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award,

Congratulations to all.

Potato night

On Tuesday 8th Feb after some confusing the unit were to try and make something out of Potatoes,

They were going to try and make some macaroon balls.

They were to put two potatoes into a bowl add some icing sugar and mix until it was a good mixture, Once this was done they were to add some coconut.

That was the Plan
But it never turned out that way.

They put too many Potatoes in added too much icing sugar.
This in most cases just made it a runny mixture and did not look very nice.

But if we try it again it might turn out different.

On Tuesday 25th january 5 Explorers from the Unit went to watch the Dalgety Bay Players version of Dick Turpin.

The Explorers were joined by other cubs and Scouts from Dalgety Bay.

Once the show started it did not take them long to get in to shouting back at the characters.
(Even Booing MR X)

As per all good shows it ended in style with everyone clapping and singing.

The Explorers all left with a smile on their face after an enjoyable night.

Cam Jam2011

Scout Post

Over the weekend 10th-12th December when the weather was not at it's greatest members of the unit were postmen for the day.
They were delivering Scout Post round Dalgety Bay.
This service is replicated round most of Fife by other scout groups.

We had approx 1000 cards to deliver this year.

Splashing About

On Tuesday 2nd November,
The waeather was starting to turn chilly,
The unit jumped in the Fordell Firs Mini Bus and headed up to Perth in search of warmer climates.
Well they headed up to the local swimming pool.
The temperture was a lot warmer inside than out doors.

Halloween Party

The dark nights are drawing in.
Lots of witches and warlocks come out at this time of year.
Yes it is the Halloween season.
We had our party on Tuesday 26th Oct at the local scout hall.
This was open to explorers from the District.
Few had made an effort to get dressed up in Fancy Dress.
We played a few games to get everyone warmed up.
Firstly we played the Key game which was not very well accepted at the start but after a few minutes everyone got into the swing of it.

To finish of the first part of the night we rushed into another game -This time it was a game where everyone had the chance to eat some chocolate.

We stopped for refreshments then it was back to a game -
Mummies which turned out really well with some getting wrapped up more than others.

We swiftly moved on to a game of memories - dealing with Rats / Eyeballs / Skeletons / Pumpkins.

To finish of the night we had the traditional Dunking for apples.
With the night drawing to a close the witches and warlocks disappeared into the night not to come out for another year.

On Tuesday 31st August,
We met up at Lochore Meadows to do some orienteering.
The Explorers were split into two teams and sent round the loch to find the points.
This took longer than expected.

Once they had all arrived back we had a BBQ which always goes down well.

"Explore! Explore! Explore!" was the Scottish National Explorer Activity Challenge; a fully programmed weekend of activity and competition being run from Fordell Firs National Activity Centre near Dunfermline between Friday 27th & Sunday 29th August 2010.
The Unit entered a team.

The camp featured an activity themed competition on the Saturday requiring teams to navigate through The Kingdom of Fife using the Fife Circle for reference and undertake various challenges along the way.

The rest of the weekend saw a variety of other entertainment for the explorers to take part in.

Activities on offer included Bell boats, Mountain Bikes, Orienteering, Environment, Golf Driving, Air Pistol/ Rifle Shooting, Kayaking, Sandcastle Building, Backwoods, Pioneering, Caving, Skittles, Slingshots, Giant Darts, Climbing, King Swing, Archery, Gladiators, Zip Lines, Jacobs Ladder, Abseiling and more.

The camp started on the Friday evening, with the competition running through till Saturday dinner, when the competition stops and the party starts!

The weekend finished after lunch on the Sunday with the presentation of the Andy Matthew Trophy leaving plenty time to travel home.

Out of 21 teams that entered the unit came a respectable joint 10th.

Chief Scout Expedition

A small group of Explorer Scouts set off by bicycle from Glen Dochart to Loch Achray over the weekend of 2nd to 4th July 2010 to achieve their Chief Scout Diamond expedition.

After the first night camping on a wildlife reserve between Crainlarich and Killin, the group started their journey alongside River Dochart to Killin where they crossed the Falls of Dochart and into the woodland assent into Glen Lyon, a valley that would take them past Lochearnhead, Balquidder, Strathyre and Loch Lubnaig; also a route reportedly used by Rob Roy MacGregor and many past armies.

At the bottom of the valley, the group reached Callendar and took a route following the shore of Loch Venacher and found a suitable campsite for the night. Approx. 34 miles had been cycled this day and intentionally as the weather had been great and reports suggested this wasn`t to last!

Following an evening meal and a nice warm fire, it was off for an early night and to relax the muscles!!!

For once the weather reports were spot on and the group woke to heavy rain so a team effort ensued to get the tents packed away, breakfast made and eaten, bikes checked and journey completed.

The rest of the journey was approx. 8 miles but despite good waterproof clothing, 8 miles is a long way in heavy rain. The route was very scenic though and the journey ended at the Achray Hotel, a welcome site and purveyor of warm tea & coffee... most welcome!

Youth Summit 2

Seven representatives from Rosyth District including some from 48th Fife were amongst 100 young people from 34 Districts that attended Youth Summit2, an event that took place between Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th June 2010 at the Scottish Police College, Tulliallan.

Their mission was to ensure that Scouting in Scotland was relevant for the young people of the millennium and challenge some of the priorities that the Scottish Board has set for the coming three years as well as considering the UK vision towards 2018.

Young people were selected to attend the event following extensive recruitment through District Commissioners, DESCs, and DSNLs and then more recently by direct requests to the young people themselves. The participants came from three distinct Groups as follows:

Explorer Scouts
18-25 Scout Network Members
18-25 Adult Leaders

Following some initial integration everyone was split into seven Groups with young people from all different types of communities across the country. They were challenged to find out more about the different types of Scouting that exist across Scotland.

The main part of the weekend took place on Saturday afternoon when Groups attended three out of seven workshops to identify:

The issues that face Scouting now,
Where Scouting should be in 2013, and
How are we going to get there.

There was wide ranging discussions and ideas around the eight strands of the Scottish Three Year Work Programme including:

Recruitment & Retention
6-25 Programme
Internal Communication
Selling Scouting Externally
How adults support local Scouting
Ensuring a sustainable movement
Youth Participation
Reflecting Diversity in Scouting

Each Group was then challenged to identify 5 statements of intent that followed the theme of "In 2013 Scouting in Scotland will...".

The facilitators used various methods to ensure that everyone had an opportunity to have their say and some lively discussions took place that challenge the way that we do things in Scouting today.

The Saturday evening was a time to relax and have some fun and a number of exciting activities were laid on including Hover about, Bucking Bronco, Surf Simulator and Art Attack as well as a time to chat to new friends.

Sunday was time to share the various findings of the Saturday workshops with the entire audience and after a short team building exercise each Group championed the session that they attended on the Saturday.

The young people shared their aspirations for Scouting in Scotland in 2013 and everyone used interactive voting pads to select the three priorities under each of the headings.

The voting brought out 35 statements of intent which were then put together into a video manifesto from the young people of Scotland. This was shared with seven invited guests including, The Chief Commissioner, Depute Chief Commissioners, Chairman of the Scottish Board, The Chief Executive and the Scottish Headquarters Commissioners (Explorer Scouts and Scout Network).

The weekend was a great success, the statements were extremely positive and in some cases controversial but they all proved how articulate our young people are and how passionately they believe in their movement.

So what now?

The video manifesto will form part of a report that will be given to the Scottish Board in August and then it will be part of the District Commissioners event `On Track` in September, however it is clear that we must embrace our engagement with young people, they have a voice and it must be heard.

We were all very impressed with these young people and promised them that we would keep in touch so that they know about events and activities that affect them in the future. This is not just a national responsibility but a local one also and it is up to every one of us to ensure that we are reminded that this is a Youth Movement.

Push Kart Derby

Our Explorer Scouts will be volunteering at the 2010 Dalgety Bay Push Kart Derby on 24th & 25th July; the event a mix of push kart action and music festival all to raise valuable funds for Cancer Research UK.

The Explorer Scouts are needed from early Saturday approx. 8:30am to lunchtime to help marshall karts through the course and again on Sunday to clear up the litter etc that has been left behind. All of the above counts for community service section of awards.

However it isn`t all work and all Explorer Scouts volunteering will be rewarded with a ticket to hear the numerous band play through the afternoon and into the evening unless of course, they are so keen as to stand with the Scout Promotional Trailer and promote local Scouting whilst listening to the bands!!!

Hammock Camp

Over the weekend 5th - 7th June the unit went up to Fordell to do a hammock camp.
With very little gear they set about setting up camp.
We made a shelter in which we could all sit under and keep the rain away.

In the evening we went and did a session of climbing in which the explorers had their first taste of actually taking the session and someone in their control while climbing.
It was quiet an experience for some.

On Sunday morning we went at did a session with KARS Radio Club where the explorer learnt a bit about Morse code and radio transmitting.
After this the Leaders left and the explorers were on their own for 24 hours.(So only knows what they got up to)

The Dalgety Bay Horticultural Society are having their Annual Show in September and have asked local Youth groups to enter a competition.
It is to design a super hero.

We will be doing this over the coming months so get your thinking caps on!!!!

Bosnia

Two of our Leaders from the District are going to bosnia.

I have enclosed some info regarding what they are planning on doing.

Brian and June Miller are planning a return trip to Bosnia with International Fire and Rescue (IFRA).

The main aim of the mission is to train firefighters in using breathing apparatus, and in First Aid skills.

We also plan to visit the local village school, which is somewhat deprived.
It would be great if you could help us with our 'mini' venture - Pencil Case Appeal.
That is to donate pencils, erasers, sharpeners, rulers, pens and pencil cases to give to each of the children within the local school. Kevin also gave me an idea to take out some solar powered calculators.
You may be able to help as a whole group, or an individual section. Any donations would be greatfully received, prior to breaking up for the Summer Holidays.
A photograph would be a bonus to take out with us, to show the Bosnian children who donated these items, but is optional.

Another idea that crossed my mind was that Cubs may want to write or Beavers draw a picture to exchange (similar to having a penpal).

Beaver Walk

When the weather was still good.
The St Bridgets Beaver Colony invited the unit to join them on a hike.
So on Tuesday 18th May,
We all set off from the hall and headed along the avenue to Aberdour.

The idea was for the Beavers to see what wild life they could find,
But after a while all they wanted to do was be carried on the backs of the Explorers.

Sports Day

On the 15th May the unit took part in the District Sports Day.
They were there to challenge three other troops to see who was the fastest and strongest.
In the Morning we had the Field events in which
Daniel took part in the Shot Putt in which he came 2nd
Liam took part in the Long Jump in which he came 3rd
and Harry took part in the High Jump in which he came second.

This all stood us in good stead for the afternoon session which was the track events.

The highlight of the session was that we won the Tug of War.

In total everyone had a great time and the results for the shield were as follows.

3rd - 13th Rosyth
2nd - 66th Aberdour
1st Joint place - 48th Dalgety Bay and 68th Inverkeithing

Conservation night

On Wednesday 5th May
Some of the unit went to help out with Fife Area Conservation Group.
This time is some what different.
The group has changed venue.
They are in the process of moving from Falkland up to Gateside.

During the night the barn was cleared out.
Steps were rebuilt.
We also cleared a pathway of trees that had started to take over the area.
The plan is to start visiting and helping in the area on a regular basis.

St George's Camp

Rosyth District hosted it`s annual District Camp at Fordell Firs between Friday 23rd and Sunday 25th April 2010, which will coincide with a St George`s Day Service on the Sunday.

Scotland`s National Camping Event 2010

"Explore! Explore! Explore!" is the Scottish National Explorer Activity Challenge; a fully programmed weekend of activity and competition being run from Fordell Firs National Activity Centre near Dunfermline between Friday 27th & Sunday 29th August 2010.

The camp will feature an activity themed competition on the Saturday requiring teams to navigate through The Kingdom of Fife using the Fife Circle for reference and undertake various challenges along the way. The rest of the weekend will see a variety of other entertainment on offer.

Activities are expected to include Bellboats, Mountain Bikes, Orienteering, Environment, Golf Driving, Air Pistol/ Rifle Shooting, Kayaking, Sandcastle Building, Backwoods, Pioneering, Caving, Skittles, Slingshots, Giant Darts, Climbing, King Swing, Archery, Gladiators, Zip Lines, Jacobs Ladder, Abseiling and more.

The camp will start on the Friday evening, with the competition running through till Saturday dinner, when the competition stops and the party starts! The weekend will finish after lunch on the Sunday with the presentation of the Andy Matthew Trophy leaving plenty time to travel home.

The camp is under canvas (i.e. in tents) and all teams should bring their own lightweight tents, sleeping bags etc.
The weekend will be fully catered from Saturday breakfast to Sunday lunch; however teams should bring their own plates, bowls and cups.

We would like to see representation from as many of the regions as possible although the weekend is limited to 120 Explorer Scouts or 20 teams of 6. Should you wish to take part but can’t make a team of 6, you should still apply and we will endeavour to make mixed teams.

The cost for the event is £25 per person (£150 per team, 6 in a team). This includes all food, but travel to and from the event is not included.

Places will be allocated on a first come (paid) first served basis. Teams must have 6 Explorers and Districts can enter as many teams as they wish.

After looking at the weather,
Plus the fact that the Ice rinks were not open on a Tuesday night for Ice Skating the unit decided to go and do Ten Pin Bowling last night 30th March.

7 Explorers and 1 leader fought the blizzards and gale force winds for 2 games of bowling.
At the end of night we wished we never had bothered,looking at the scores.

Go Ape

On Saturday 20th March
Starting from Invertrossachs Campsite on the shore of Loch Venacher near Callander, we hiked along the right of way through Invertrossachs Estate and Queen Elizabeth Forest to the `Go Ape` facility at Aberfoyle.

It’s not in the dictionary, but if it was, Go Ape would be described as a ‘high-wire forest adventure’.

This is their first Scottish course and what an impact it's made. Stunning scenery of the surrounding Queen Elizabeth Forest Park gives the course a jaw-dropping backdrop.

Oh, and let's not forget, arguably, the course's main attraction - Britain’s two longest zip wires, each stretching over 400m long, flying customers 150 feet above ground over a 90 foot waterfall.

A mecca for Go Ape pilgrims and thrill seekers alike.

Xtreme Karting

On Tuesday 23rd Febuary.
We went through to Larbert to try our hands at Go Karting.
12 Explorers met up with 12 Explorers from Glenrothes/Kirkcaldy and Rosyth Disrticts.

After arriving we were split into 5 groups and got kitted up for the racing.

We had to have a safety talk before everyone was allowed to get on track.

Everyone had 2 x 15 laps to prove how fast they could go (or not as the case may be)(Barrie broke a kart,Much to the delight of the group)

We did however managed to get the top three races on the night.

They were

3rd - Jordan Mackenzie(48th)
2nd - Stuart Donaldson(48th)

And for the 3rd year running with a fastest lap time of 23.27 Seconds it was Jordan Harkins from Glenrothes.

But every one left saying they wanted to go back!!

Young leaders weekend

Over the weekend 19th -21st Feb.
7 members from the unit attended the young leaders weekend.
This was held at the Jock Neish centre just outside Dundee.
The main point of the weekend is to teach Explorers skills to work with the younger sections.
They had sessions on the following sections
Game on(learn how to run games for the sections)
Programme planning and programme planning plus!! (making up programme for the sections)
Taking The Lead(team building)
First aid session.
All 7 Explorers have now competed all the modules and now can start to work towards the missions.
During the weekend we also had one of the Explorers received his Duke of Edinburgh award bronze.

Global Night

On Tuesday 16th February the unit met slightly earlier in the evening, this was to run a Global night for the St Bridgets Beavers.

We had 8 Explorers turn up to run the bases.
After a short talk on what Global meant and fair trade and re-cycling we split the beavers intio 3 groups.

The bases they had to tackle were.

1.What people thought of different countries(the beavers had to make a poster of a country)
2.Make a structure usiung limited tools.
3.What is important in the 3rd world and also in the developed world.(Put a list of items into order of importance.

After this we had a summary of what we had done.

The beavers have completed the majority of the Global challenge badge and will hopefully be presented soon.

Beaver Challenge Day

On Sunday Explorers from the district went to help run the Beaver Challenge Day.
We had 3 helpout.
They met at Inverkeithing High School(Wing).

6 Colonies turned up from the district and they worked round 7 bases.
These bases were to test the beavers of their skill and physical attributes.

Finally we had totalled up the scores and it was a close contest but the Beavers from the 68th Inverkeithing went home with the trophy for this year.

Service Project

On the 2nd February the unit was asked if they could help with a small project at Fordell Firs.
In typical fashion we had 8 turn up and got into the project quickly.

They were clearing up the store building which had pillars knocked down at the weekend to create a larger storage area.

Once this job had been done, we moved all the wood round into the storage yard.
Unfortunately once we had finished Bob came round and told us that we had stacked it all in the wrong place(Cant win them all)

How do you fancy climbing on one of the largest freestanding climbing walls in the UK?

Well some of the unit did!!!

With over sixty roped 10 metre high climbs of varying difficulty, Climbzone is the perfect location for indoor climbing.

Not only that but it is also home to Skypark; a state of the art aerial adventure course, 60m long, 15m above the ground, including a zip slide, traverse wall, hanging logs, jigsaw, swinging rungs, swinging platforms, cargo net, Burma bridge and rope ladders.

Fan Drop; twin fan descenders - the first of their kind in the world - where you clip on and jump freefalling most of the way until the fan slows you to a gentle landing 15m below!

On Tuesday 22nd January,

5 members from the unit went through with explorers from the 13th to try their hands at 2 out the three activities.
They either did the climbing and sky park or the sky park and the fan drop.

Once they had finished they also had the oppertunity to experience the only robotic arm ride in the UK. Program the robot yourself! Get strapped in and hold on tight! How wild can you take it?

PM Visits the group

On Saturday 19th December, Gordon Brown PM, visited the 48th Fife (Dalgety Bay) Scout Group.

He visited with his wife Sarah and his two boys as part of the Groups 40th anniversary. He was greeted by the the Group Scout Leader, Elaine Pert, before meeting and talking with the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts. He viewed a display showing the history of the Group, before seeing some of the activities that the boys and girls were engaged in.

He thanked the leaders for all or their hard work over the years in making the Group so successful

Conservation Residential

We had 4 Explorers from the unit attend a Christmas Residential at Fordell Firs` Richmond Chalet between Friday 4th and Sunday 6th December 2009 with the conservation group that we are working along side.

Following arrival on the Friday evening, we headed off to Dunfermline Abbey to witness the Son et Lumiere spectacular that is part of the Dunfermline Winter Festival. It started with a light show highlighting many of the Abbey`s beautiful features with powerful and sometimes startling Christmas music being played before we were all ushered inside the Abbey Nave where we were treated to many Christmas carols - new and old - sung by the choir.

On the Saturday, some of us went off to Marks & Spencer Kirkcaldy for bag packing fundraising whilst those that stayed had a project on-site to remove and replace the old awning style door of a cooking shed with two side opening doors and to plant nine new Ash Trees as part of the SWT Tree O`Clock Event.

Eeveryone though was back in plenty time for a wonderful Christmas dinner with all of the trimmings!

Then before it had even really settled, it was off to 48th Dalgety Bay Scout Hall for a Christmas Party with a few games, bit of dancing and even more food in shape of a buffet!

On the Sunday, we split into two groups and both had the chance to try the Fordell Climbing Tower and Jacobs Ladder and then all games together for a go at Sumo Wrestling.

Great fun was had by all!

SCOUT POST

This year like every other year we took part in the mammoth exercise of Scout Post.
All over Fife Scout Groups were collecting and delivering Christmas cards.

This year we were helping one of the scout groups as they are raising funds to go on a Jamboree in the summer.

we colleted near on 800 cards and delivered over 1200.
Also we delivered Aberdour Golf Clubs Membership packs round Dalgety Bay.

We would like to thank all that supported us in Raising Funds and hopefully next year will be better and bigger.

Five a Side Football

On saturday 28th Nov.
We entered a team in Rosyth District's Five a Side Football Compertition.
There were 4 units taken part.
We had a round robin contest and won all our games.
This meant that we had made the final which was against our old Rivals the 13th,

But this year we managed to defeat them to claim the honour for a year!!!!.

Ready Steady Cook

Three teams from Rosyth District; 13th Rosyth, 46th Cowdenbeath and 48th Dalgety Bay gathered on Wednesday 25th November 2009 to take part in a Ready Steady Cook event.

To start with the teams had to decide on a team name and we had the not so original "Orange Oranges", "Beetroot Beetroots" and the "Red Grapes".

It was then down to business and with 45 minutes on the clock, the teams had to serve a two course meal using ingredients purchased with no more than £7.50.

The "Orange Oranges" worked on a pasta dish with a tomato, pepper and courgette sauce followed by pancakes with chocolate and strawberries while the "Red Grapes" made Spaghetti Bolognese with a not so subtle hint of garlic and individual truffles and the "Beetroot Beetroots" went to town with Bacon and Cheese Fritters, Spinach and Mashed Potato followed by a Lemon Cheesecake.

The effort was superb and all three teams did so well but there had to be a winner and that was...

Jointly between 46th/ Red Grapes and 48th/ Beetroot Beetroots.
Congratulations.

Conservation Day

3 Members from the unit met up with the Conservation group at Mossmorren to do some work around the plant

As it was we were once again very lucky,
as contrary to the forecast,the weather remained dry until after lunch so we were able to achieve many tasks listed for the day.

Everyone worked together to achieve the following:
Approx 600 trees/hedging plants were planted and TLC was carried out to
existing trees and hedges.
A fungi area was created to enhance the existing fungi habitat and encourage
more fungi to grow.

More construction was carried out at the compost area to complete the
compost storage facility
Dead vegetation was cleared around the pond area and dead trees were removed
and replaced with healthy young trees
A hedgehog box was relocated and frog boxes and insect boxes were installed
around the pond area
A pile of compost was moved by wheelbarrow to the new compost area
Volunteers were provided with lunch courtesy of Exxon Mobil and what a lunch
it was! Delicious soup, a large selection of sandwiches, crisps and
amazingly scrumptious double chocolate chip muffins!

After a hearty lunch volunteers waddled back to the work areas and finished
off the above tasks just as the heavy rain started to fall. Everyone
departed from the site knowing that they had done a little bit to improve the area.

Gapp Weekend

Over the weekend 13th - 15th November 6 members of the unit went up to Auchengillan Scout Centre to take part in the latest GAPP weekend.

What is GAPP?

The Global Awareness Partnership Project is a way of finding out about International and Environmental issues through fun activities.

This weekend is now the third one to be run for Explorers and Network Members.

On the Friday it was just arrival and get to know session.

On the Saturday they had sessions on Fair trade,Sweat shop scenario's,Chocolate games,Paper bag game,Coffee quiz.

To finish of the night we had a quiz in which the leaders team won!!(Who said that we were old and did not know anything).

One of the leaders then brought out his DJ kit and some danced the night away(Well!!)

On the Sunday we started with a Scouts own to make everyone thing about what was important in Life.

After this we have a poverty challenge game.
To finish off the weekend we had sessions on Re-cycling and a few games.

The weekend hopefully was a success with everyone taking something back with them to pass on to others.

Make a Difference Day at
The Colin Burt Reserve for Wildlife Conservation

Members of the unit met up with around 30 FACCG volunteers to travel up to the reserve at Glen Dochart on Saturday 31st October to carry out projects for Make a Difference Day.

The weather was dry with occasional showers and reasonably warm. Infact everyone was relieved that we went on the Saturday and not on Sunday 1st November which had horrendous wet weather and much flooding all over the UK!

Numerous tasks were undertaken at the reserve, as follows:

-300 young trees were re-staked and re-tubed as the spiral guards were too small and the deer were nibbling the tops of the trees.

-The remainging boardwalk was completed and now extends further into the woodland.

-Logs that were felled by BT were burnt.

-Tree branches were trimmed along the pathway and the brash was burnt.

-A recycled timber bridge was installed over a wet area in the woodland

-A very clever mechanism to ensure the gate that provides access to the woodland self closes itself was installed.

-Finally the famous "building site yard" is still looking great!

Gorge Walk

Members from the unit made up a party of Sixteen Explorer Scouts and leaders from Rosyth District who headed North to Craggan Outdoors near Grantown-on-Spey to experience Gorge Walking on Saturday 12th September 2009.
What is Gorge walking?

In short, it involves ascending or descending a river, jumping into pools, climbing up waterfalls, traversing along rock walls and generally having a good time.

We arrived at Craggan about 11am in time to settle into our accommodation, which was a lovely farm cottage in Glenbeg Estate about 2 miles from Craggan; a farm cottage with dorms, shower rooms, a large kitchen and a good sized dining/ communal area.

After lunch, we split into two groups, the first going gorge walking whilst the other had a go at archery led by one of our newly qualified leaders outside the farm house.

After getting kitted out in full-body wetsuit, helmet and life jacket, we walked into the rock pool at the bottom of the gorge and acclimatised to the fresh mountain water with a song of `heads, shoulders, knees & toes`... quite ordinary until to go for the toes and get a mouth full of water!

We were then led by our two instructors to scramble and clamber up small waterfalls, gullies and chutes until we reached the plunge pool at the top of the gorge.

We then climbed up the rocks and took a `step` off... a ten foot plunge back in!

Once everybody had enough of that, we went back down again, this time slipping and sliding down all those gullies and chutes... much quicker than the coming up!!!

A quick turnaround and it was time for group two to esperience the gorge whilst group one had a go at archery with another of our newly qualified leaders!.. the GNAS course last weekend couldn`t have come at a better time!!!

In the evening, we made the most of the communal area by watching a large screen movie and reminising about the day`s adventure. In the morning after a lazy start - an Explorer Scout`s favourite activity! - we headed back South... but not before dropping into Craggan for a walk around the nature trail we created in February.

Halloween Party

The dark nights are drawing in.
Lots of witches and warlocks come out at this time of year.
Yes it is the Halloween season.
We had our party on Tuesday 28th Oct at the local scout hall.
This was open to explorers from the Distict.
we had 22 youngsters and 6 adults turn up.
Everyone had made an effort to get dressed up in Fancy Dress.
We played a few games to get everyone warmed up.
Firstly we played the Key game which was not very well accepted at the start but after a few minutes everyone got into the swing of it.

We swiftly moved on to a game of memories - dealing with Rats / Eyeballs / Skeletons / Pumpkins.

To finish of the first part of the night we rushed into another game -This time it was a game where everyone had the chance to eat some chocolate.

We stopped for refreshments then it was back to a game -

Mummies which turned out really well with some getting wrapped up more than others.

To finish of the night we had the traditional Dunking for apples.
With the night drawing to a close the witches and warlocks disappeared into the night not to come out for another year.

Group AGM

On Wednesday 21st Oct.
It was was the group's AGM.
This was a special meeting as it was exactly 40 years since the group was formed.
each section had put up old items round the hall to reflect what had happened over the years.
we had a film show which showed the past and also the present of scouting in Dalgety Bay.
There were also some awards handed out.

Elaine Nolton was standing down as Treasuer and was given a Thanks Pin.
We also had 4 Explorer Scouts awarded their Chief Scout Platinum award.

Over the weekend 25th – 27th September 2009
8 members from the unit attended a Young leaders Training weekend at
Badaguish Lodges, Nr Aviemore.

They were there to learn how to develop their skills so they could go back to the sections that they help out with and have an impact on how the section is run.

The Programme for the weekend consisted of the following modules

Hopefully they have learn some things and have come away with some ideas to take back to the sections.

Paint Away

On Wednesday 9th September we were invited up to Crossgates Community Garden to help develop it.
The first job that was needing done was to Paint the new fence that separates the local Gardens from the Community Garden.

As the night began to get dark we had done one side and half the other.

The plan is to go up and to do some work every month.
This will go towards the awards that the Explorers will be able to gain.

Bowling

On Monday 7th September members from the unit met up with other Explorers from the District for the first District Event evening.
The idea is for each unit in teh district to host the rest.
This month it was the turn of the 68th and they all went bowling(Or that was suppose to be the case)
We tried to get on to the lanes but were told that it was full and we would have to wait a while.

So it was on to Plan B.
They walked acrross the road and went and played two games of Crazy Golf.

So all well that ends well.

Driving4Success’

Members from the unit took part in a car training course run by Youth First.
This was run over 3 days.
They were the 25th Aug and 29th and 30th Aug.
The course is split into 3 parts.

Driving4Success’
is an exciting and innovative youth work initiative targeted at 14 to 18 year olds who have an interest in motor vehicles. Funded by the Big Lottery, this programme is a systematic and proven method of providing and delivering this type of training in a safe and enjoyable manner.There are two courses within the ‘Driving4Success’ programme. One based on Cars and the other on Motorcycles. Young people can take part in both if they wish. Both are organised and run in three sections.

First Steps
Delivered by experienced youth workers, the purpose of this section is to promote discussion about a variety of issues regarding motor vehicle ownership and road use. These include - the legalities, vehicle crime, the social and environmental impact of motor vehicles and the motor vehicle industry.

Mechanics
Delivered by a qualified technician, the purpose of this section is to introduce the basics of motor vehicle care and maintenance and the costs involved in becoming a motor vehicle owner.

Driving
Delivered by qualified instructors, the purpose of this section is to introduce the basics of good motor vehicle driving,

Aj09 Saturday 8th August

As all good things come to an end so did the Jamboree.
We woke up on the Saturday with thoughts of going home.
After getting all the gear down it was time to say goodbye to our home for a week and the friends that we had made over the week.

It was home to clear the gear away and head home for a well earned rest,with the memories of a great week in our minds

AJ09 Friday 7th August

We woke up with a bit of sadness in the camp this morning.
It was the last full day at the jamboree.

We had no Site Activities this day as it was our day on our Sub Camp.

The Morning was taken up with a Wide Game which some of the groups had planned.
The Afternoon was lots of bases in which the Explorers and Ranger Guides had some fun with the rest of the sub camp.

In the evening we had a Scottish Burns Camp Fire and finished of the evening with the Closing Ceremony

Aj 09 Wednesday 5th Aug

By Wednesday we were all in the swing of AJ life.
In the morning we had the following activities to do.
Rifle Shooting/Raft Building, Wheels , Extreme Backwoods , Kayaking , Climbing/Archery , On Site Fun!!

In the afternoon we went away and did the following

Physical Jerks , Wii Zone/Radio , Arts and Crafts , Extreme Backwoods , Newsletter , Geo Caching/Electronics.
In the Evening we had AJ’s Got Talent(The grand Final).
This causes an up roar with the crowd as the Favourite with them only came second and the outsider’s actually won!!.

There was also another chance for the party to show off their singing skills and for the people who wanted to spend a night at the pictures there was a DVD night.

AJ09 Tuesday 4th Aug

Tuesday was our Sub Camps Day off Site.
It was an early start again (We had to be ready to leave site for 8.30am)
The whole Sub Camp was split into 2 groups.
We were on Bus 3.
We headed of into Stirling to Blair Drummond Safari Park.
The bus had a run round the park before dropping us off to explore the site.

Even feeding time at the zoo took part.

After lunch we took the short trip through to Stirling to see the sights.

In the evening we had a Karaoke and also the auditions of AJ’s got talent.

The Karaoke went down well with several of the party getting up to sing.

Aj09 Monday 3rd Aug

We begin the week (Monday) with a very Early start
We had 4 people on the water and they had to be ready to get away for 8am.
The rest of the group had a long lie.

The activities that we had on Monday were as follows.

Newsletter making , Abseiling , Crate Climbing , Kayaking , Wii Zone , Radio playing(DJ’s) , Physical Jerks , Global Development Village , All Day Fun – Swimming , Visiting transport Museum , Arts and Crafts , Canoeing , Mountain Biking , Sailing , Power boating

We had 15 Explorers / Rangers on the water this day.
We also had 2 leaders who went down to take some photo’s and ended up 3 hours on the Power Boats.

In the evening we had a Carnival in the barn where there was Extreme Twister and gold catcher like on the Crystal Maze.
Then there was a large bouncy castle and the energiser zone.

There was also a Quiz on site.

AJ09 Sunday 2nd Aug

Sunday came but we all had a long lie(8am for the kids)

After a good breakfast.
The sub camp got together to have a scouts own

Part of the scouts own is a prayer in which we had one of the Explorer scouts do for the camp!!

Now it was time for the groups to get mixed up to meet each other and to do a few activities.
Firstly they had a game which worked after a while.
This was then followed by a wide game which let everyone get used to where things were.

This was only the morning after lunch it was the start of the Activities.
We given tickets and the Explorers and Rangers went of to do the following activities.

Pandemonium, Single Sailing ,Arts and Crafts ,Physical Jerks , Hill Walking
We also had to lower the flags that night.

To finish of the night there was a Disco in the Barn where the young and old could
Cut some Shapes as they say!!!!

Then it was off to bed at 11.30pm ready for a brand new day!!

AJ09 Saturday 1st Aug

Well the time had finally come!!
We were all set for the Jamboree at AJ.

We all met at the hall on Friday night to get all the small items ironed out.
Also to make sure that all the equipment that we had was all packed.

After an early night (Well for explorers midnight is early)
We were all up bright and early (6am)
After a hearty breakfast we set of in 2 mini buses for hopefully a fun week.

We arrived at Auchengillan at 11am after we took a wrong turn and headed up on the way to Luss.

We were given out site and the rest of the day was for us to set up the site and settle in our new environment.

As you can see it is a tough life as an Explorer leader.

The Explorers and Ranger Guides had time to go and explorer what will become home for the next week.

Like all units we work on our stomachs so it was not long before they were back looking for something to eat.

The rain came and came and (Well you get the idea!!)
But in true scouting fashion the show must go on!
So it was time for the opening ceremony.

There was a stage were all 4 Sub camps marched into.
We were given a dance performance and then the jamboree was officially opened.
This followed by a Scottish band.

That finished of the first day of what will be a hectic week.

Scouts First Visit

On Tuesday 30th June,
4 Scouts joined us for the start of their visits.
It was a relaxing time (since it was the last night)

We played a chilled out game of Frisbee Football.
This was followed by us trying out our new dome tent.
To finish of we had hotdogs and looked forward to a nice holiday

Chief Scout Expedition

Over the weekend 19th - 21st June.
Nine of the unit went to do the chief Scout Platinum Award Expedition.
Our plan was to walk from Crail Harbour to the castle at St Andrew's.
We set of nice and early to get a good head start. It was easy going to start with as we went through the Golf Course's.
As the morning went on we started to slow down. It was then dinner time at we sat down for our luxury lunch at Campo sands(Well down to sandwiches at least).
Things were going ok till the last climb of the day when disaster struck(The old man(Barrie))got cramp.

He hobbled on to the beach at St Andrews were he was picked up and taken up to the castle. Our home for the night was at the Scout hall in St Andrews.
With Barrie out of action he had to go and get his car during the night,while the rest bedded down for the night. On the Sunday it was part two of the walk and the explorers made good time up to Leauchars and the train station.
Where they caught the train(One hour early) back to Inverkeithing.

Powerboat RYA Level 2 Course

Over the Weekend 13th -14th June.
One of our Explorers joined up with Explorers from Rosyth to do their powerboat RYA level 2 course.
It was held at Longcraig Scout Watersport Centre at South Queensferry.

The syllabus includes:

Practical

a. Handling at low and high speed
b. Picking up and securing to a buoy
c. Anchoring
d. Leaving and coming alongside a pontoon/ jetty
e. Man overboard recovery
f. Pilotage and compass use
g. Application of road rules and bylaws
h. Towing
i. Basic maintenance

Theory

j. Chart work/ passage planning
k. Tides/ tidal streams
l. Weather
m. Distress and safety precautions
n. Insurance and legal paperwork

Upon completion.
They will have been awarded the RYA Level 2 Certificate.
and for Explorer Scouts, They also receive the Watersports Badge.

Dalgety Bay Gala

On Saturday 13th June.
It was Dalgety Bay Gala.
The unit shared a pitch with the Dunfermline Diving Club.
We did our usual Fundraiser(Stocks)
It was going well and then like every year the british weather took its toll and the heavens open.

But this did not stop us promoting Scouting and the explorers raised a fair amount of funds which will help the totals for AJ09.

Rosyth District AGM

On Wednesday 10th June.
It was Rosyth District's Agm.
It was the time for the old District commissioner(Alan Bull) Who after 10 years service was stepping down and for the new district commissioner (Barrie Wilson) to be invested.

This all took place after the business side of the night.
Barrie was invested by the regional commissioner (Derek Colley)and proceeded to inform the floor who was going to be appointed on the District Executive.

Then it came to the best part of the night.
2 Explorers from the 48th were awarded the Chief Scout Diamond
Callum Robertson did the following.
Working with Special needs.
Working as a Young Leader with the beaver section
Doing Scuba Diving

Shaun Ward did the following
Working with Special needs.
Working as a Young Leader with the Scout section
Playing Squash

They both have just completed the west Highland way for the Expedition side of the award.

Following on from this by several leaders being presented with long service awards.

Alan Bull also awarded Melanie Williams her wood badge.
To round of the presentations the district presented Alan and Eileen with a thank you gift for all the work they had done over the past 10years.

Derek Colley did a presentation on Scouting past and present.

The evening was rounded of with a buffet

The unit went up on Tuesday 2nd June to lend a hand.
This gave them a chance to meet members from the district that they would not normally see and also for leaders to see them at work(So to Speak)

As per all nights like this a team works on its stomach so they got well fed!!.

Edinburgh Marathon

The sun was out, Not a cloud in the sky.
It was a perfect day to go out for a small run.
Well 12,000 people took this too far.
They took part in the Edinburgh Marathon on the 31st May.
Even before the race started at 9am the temperature was in the teens
The unit were there to help with the baggage trucks again.
After loading on thousands of bags we left Princes Street before the race began and headed down to the finish line at Musselburgh race course.

The explorers had time to do what they do best,(Go on the lookout for food and juice)
Once stocked up with Lucozade we chiled out in the summer sun and wait for the runners to return.

The times were good and by 4pm(7 hrs into the race there were only 9 bags left to be collected.)

Swimming

As the saying goes
Dont Mix Electrics and Water together!!

Well that's what the Explorers did in a roundabout way!!

Our Scout hall is undergoing a facelift at the moment.
We are getting all the electrics renewed, So there were no sections this week in the hall.
This did not stop the unit meeting up and we headed of up to perth for an evening of Swimming.

BYO Camp

3 of the unit met up with other memebrs from the district at Fordell Firs National Activity Centre on the 15th May for the first BYO(Bring your own camp).
This camp was run by Terry O'Neill from the 13th Explorer Scouts.

The idea of the camp is to come along and camp (tent, bivouac or hammock) as you please; chat, chill or listen to music with other Explorer Scouts; no organised programme; no need to book; sit round a fire, sizzle a sausage or two; wake and leave when you like!
The selling points for this idea is!!!!

• Got work? Arrive late or leave early – no problem!
• Only one that wants to go? Other Explorers there – no problem!
• Vegetarian or dietary requirement – You plan what you eat – no problem!

All they had to bring was the following!!!

Bring Your Own:
Transport (or Feet!)
Tent (or Shelter!)
Food (or Takeaway Menu!)
Crockery & Cutlery (or Fingers!)
Heath Form
Camping Fee.

The next one will be held on Friday 26th June.

Sports Day

On the 9th May.
It was Rosyth District's Sports Day.
As the heavens opened and put the whole meeting in the threat of being cancelled, But the event still went on.

We had 6 of the unit compete against 3 other units from the district.

In the morning session we came 4th in the Long Jump and 3rd in the Shot put which put us down in 3rd place.

But then the afternoon events came and we slowly climbed up the leader board to finally finish in joint first place.
The final places were as follows.

1st - 48th Dalgety Bay/66th Aberdour
3rd - 68th Inverkeithing
4th - 13th Rosyth.

But with the way the weather was i think everyone was a winner just for taking part.

Crazy Golf

On Wednesday 29th April.
4 members once again met up up Fairway Fife to take part in the next monthy event.
This time it was to do Crazy Golf at Dunferline Lesuire Park.
There are two courses that they could have tried.
Pirate's Cove and Treasure Island.

A lot of putting took place and not many hole in ones'
But even though it was a cold night it still turned out be a very sucessful night
